Research Officer

The Research Officer will play a key role in planning, implementing, and reporting on both qualitative and quantitative research initiatives at MEED Foundation. Working closely with the Projects Team, the role involves designing research studies, collecting and analysing data, and preparing findings for policy and strategic interventions. The Research Officer will contribute to MEED’s mission of supporting evidence-based decision-making for sustainable economic development. The role will also involve direct engagement in field research activities, including on- site data collection and stakeholder interactions across project locations.
Job Roles & Responsibilities:
- Research Design & Execution: Design and implement both qualitative and quantitative research studies in collaboration with the team. This includes defining research questions, developing sampling strategies, and selecting appropriate data collection methods such as surveys, interviews, focus groups, and remote sensing tools.
- Field Research & Data Collection: Conduct fieldwork for data gathering through on-site visits, community engagement, and observational research. Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure accurate and ethical data collection aligned with project goals.
- Data Management & Analysis: Organise, clean, and transform data for analysis using statistical tools.
- Insight Generation & Reporting: Prepare clear, insightful research reports and visual outputs to inform decision-making. Communicate findings effectively to both internal teams and external stakeholders through written reports, presentations, and dashboards.
- Ethics & Data Governance: Ensure all research activities adhere to international and local standards for research ethics and data privacy. Uphold integrity in data handling and promote responsible data use.
- Monitoring & Evaluation: Support the development of metrics and indicators to assess the impact of MEED's initiatives. Track progress against objectives and contribute to strategy refinement based on data-driven insights.
- The duties can be amended at the discretion of the management and the agreement of the employee. The employee may also be required to perform other functions, which are within her/his capacity, skills, aptitude and knowledge without additional remuneration.
Qualifications Required:
- 1–2 years of professional experience in research, data analysis, or related fields, ideally within development or academia.
- Proven experience conducting field research and managing both qualitative and quantitative research projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Social Sciences, or Information Systems. A master’s degree is preferred.
Skill Sets Required:
- Strong knowledge of research methodologies, including survey design, interviews, focus groups, and observational research.
- Experience with data management tools and software, ability to create and maintain databases, codebooks, and data documentation.
- Proficiency in data visualisation tools and techniques for communicating research insights to varied audiences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Kurdish, Arabic is a plus.
- Familiarity with research ethics, data privacy regulations, and international standards in data governance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets and extract actionable insights.
- Fieldwork readiness, including the ability to conduct research in varied environments and engage with community stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- High degree of attention to detail, accuracy, and quality in research outputs.
- Collaborative mindset with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
